Signs you have a hidden leak

If you notice any of the following signs, you may have a plumbing leak somewhere in your home:

  • You have excessively high water bills, with no extra usage
  • You hear water running without any open faucets
  • Your tile or concrete floors feel warm
  • Your carpets feel wet or damp
  • You notice signs of mold or mildew

What causes pipe leaks?

Some of the most common causes of pipe leaks include:

  1. Hard water: Here in Tampa, we have hard water, which means we have corrosive minerals in our water supply. These minerals can wear down pipes, especially if the pipe is made out of weak material.
  2. The material of your pipes: Some pipe materials wear out faster than others, causing them to spring a leak. We especially see leak problems with copper pipes (pinhole leaks).
  3. The conditions of your soil: Some of the minerals found in soil can corrode pipes. Additionally, if soil shifts under your foundation, it can increase pressure on the pipes, eventually causing a leak.
  4. Lightning or construction damage: Both of these can cause pipes to crack and form leaks.

Cost of leak detection services in Tampa

Some contractors will raise the price of their leak detection services if it takes longer than an hour or requires more than one plumber.

Our price? We charge a flat-rate fee of $250. That means, no matter whether the job takes us 1 hour or 5 hours, you'll pay the exact same rate.

Any company can say they're the best at finding plumbing leaks, but few have the customer reviews to prove it.

See how we helped Sarasota homeowner J.D. Lynne find and repair his plumbing leak.

The case of J.D.'s leaking water meter

J.D. noticed that his water usage over the last 2 months was significantly higher than normal. Concerned, he called us for help, and we quickly sent over Cory, one of our plumbers, to see where the leak could be.

After Cory arrived at J.D.'s home, he first inspected the interior of the home, looking for water damage or other signs that would indicate a leak. Finding no signs of leaking pipes inside, he shut off the water valve and then went to examine the water meter.

After he confirmed that the water meter's leak detector dial was spinning, Cory started looking for a leak around the outside of the home, and quickly determined that the leak was near the water meter. Cory explained to J.D. where the leak was, and with J.D.'s permission, got to work repairing the leaking pipe. Two hours later, the pipe was fixed and J.D. was enjoying running water again.

"I knew we had called the right company"

"Cory arrived on time and went straight to work eliminating possible reasons for our exceptionally high water consumption over the last two months. We were greatly relieved when he told us that the possible leak was not in the house or foundation. He quickly narrowed the source to the area around the water meter. Even with the temperature being 94 degrees, he began digging around the back flow unit until he had a hole two feet deep and a foot and a half wide. Water was shooting out from a break in the pipe between the meter and back flow unit. Although he was working in a sunny area he assured me he would stick to the job until the water could be turned back on for us. At that point I knew we had called the right company and they had sent us the right man. Less than 2 hours later, our water was back on and Liz and I were saying how grateful we were that our problem had been solved by Plumbing Today in less than 12 hours from the time we called. Thanks again Cory!" – J.D. Lynne
